Nicola here, co-founder of Horizon Sail. Nicola here, co-founder of Horizon Sail. I hope you are all keeping well and healthy during this uncertain time. Unfortunately, as of today we have been forced to make the following decision:
ALL trips departing on or before 30th August have now been cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis and the concerns of social distancing aboard ships and around the islands. Team Horizon have been in contact with all our guests directly via email. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER SHOULD YOU NOT HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL just in case it dropped in there.
If you would like to speak to us, or haven’t received communication from us please drop us a line at email@example.com and we will happily assist you.
It pains us to have to postpone our trips with so many excited guests, we truly enjoy showcasing the beauty of Croatia throughout the summer across every single sailing week. We hope to welcome you all aboard in 2021 and deliver the most magnificent trip you deserve when the time is right again.

A message from the co-founders of Horizon, Matej & Nicola
The news of the Covid-19 pandemic has certainly caused an unexpectedly difficult time for many people across the World. We hope our past, present and future guests are keeping well during this uncertain time.
For fellow travel-enthusiasts, it would be fair to say the lack of our freedom to roam has undoubtedly hit us all hard. Personally, we are both known for our ‘free spirit’ lifestyle and we usually allow the power of instinct to take us to our next destination during off season. Many of you will be able to relate to this, or alternatively have that daunting thought of “when will my next holiday be?” Future travel currently has a large question mark hanging over it, with the most difficult part not having an exact date of when this will all be over. Personally we are impatiently waiting for the days we can return to roaming free again!
We both started our journey in the travel industry much before founding Horizon, with many years under our belts of managing trips globally. We eventually brought our ideas and expert experience together to create a unique and elite product, bringing a successful first sailing season in 2019! Hundreds of wonderful guests joined us to explore the beauty of the Croatian Islands, making friendships and memories to last a lifetime. We cannot be more thankful to our first year guests, who put entire trust into us to deliver unforgettable holidays by choosing to travel with ourselves. We have been overwhelmed with the incredible feedback we received over the last year, and thanks to this we were able to set plans for an even more successful 2nd year, expanding our trips to various products and categories to offer more special itineraries. Unfortunately, hearing the news of Covid-19 in March left us unsure on the possibilities of our 2020 season and what the future would bring.
Croatia is on the verge of reaching normality again, slowly coming out of lockdown with 3 phases in place. Croatia relies on tourism as its main source of income, so for the country to write off the summer season would cause some damage. The cases in Croatia have been minimal in comparison to others, and the country remains hopeful that ‘business as usual’ may resume at some point this season. This is not to say ‘tourism as usual’ will be feasible, or that international flights will go ahead any time soon. We are keeping well up to date with our reliable sources from the Croatian Tourism Board to learn more each day. With our industry, more often than not, most of the guests booking payments are almost immediately put towards the operating of the trip, for instance hiring the ships and booking your excursions. Travel across the World is at a standstill right now, but now more than ever it is important to support the tourism industry to ensure there are still the many exciting operators, hotels and tours to explore when the time comes again.
Trip departure updates
As it stands, we have made the extremely difficult decision to postpone all trip departures up to 15th August 2020. We have contacted each and every guest with the update (if you have not received this email please check your spam folder just in case, or contact us directly).
This has not been an easy decision to make and it leaves us with a heavy heart. Nobody anticipated we would be dealing with such unforeseen circumstances and we are simply doing what we believe is right for our guests. Your patience and understanding during the last month or so has been greatly appreciated. During this time, we have amended and updated our Terms and Conditions to coincide with the changes of the Covid-19 pandemic and in doing so we understand the confusion it may have brought. We have been keeping up to date with the changes to ensure the best possible options for our guests throughout this.
All guests booked on a trip up to 15th August 2020 are able to receive a full reimbursement in the form of travel credit. This travel credit is valid to use until 30th September 2021 towards any departure before 10th October 2021. Team Horizon will send you confirmation of your travel credit balance. If you have any leftover credit after rescheduling your trip, you can transfer it towards a friend’s booking. We want to make this as hassle-free as we can for you, all you have to do is get in touch when you want to reschedule.

Updates from 15 April 2020
Will future Horizon Sail trips run?
Our 2020 season begins in June, a shorter season consciously chosen by Team Horizon to ensure the best of Croatia’s weather for our guests while sailing. With a later start to the season, we have not yet had to cancel any of our sailing trips, at least until we gain further advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and further information on the progress of lifted travel bans. If we are forced to make the unprecedented decision to cancel any trips, our guests will be fully informed the moment we are aware ourselves. In such circumstance, we have amended our policies through this difficult time to relieve the pressure from our guests. These will be stated below along with our booking term amendments.
We are immensely hopeful that Horizon sail 2020 season will operate as per normal, eradicating the need to cancel any trips. As you can imagine, we are reviewing this on a week by week basis. In the unfortunate event of the virus affecting travel this late in the year, our guests who have booked to travel with us in June will be the first to hear directly from us with an official update. Although it is extremely uncertain what will happen, we remain hopeful that travel bans will be lifted before then and your trips will sail as normal.

Our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew and we can assure you that every decision made is in the best interest of you. Our ships accommodate for small groups and give our guests more of a personalised and intimate sailing experience. We tend to avoid spending time around large crowds to apply responsible and sustainable tourism throughout our specially created itineraries; allowing you the chance to experience real Croatia and visiting some carefully picked favourite hidden gems we know you’ll love, as well as some hotspots.
Before each trip, all Horizon Sail ships will be washed, cleaned and disinfected from top to bottom. Each day during the trip, your boat crew will work hard to ensure the cleanliness of your home for the week (this goes without saying in any case, as the captains and their crew see their ships as their pride and joy, so cleaning of their home is a big part of their daily routine!) General important hygiene measures are met each week, including guest’s access to hand sanitizer at all times aboard the ships. Your trip manager and crew will be equipped with more emergency hand sanitizer, disinfectant sprays and disposable paper towels to replenish stock when required. All the latest emergency contact details will be accessible as well as our regular boat safety equipment.
Croatia: What is the current stance with Covid-19?
As of 23rd March 2020, Covid-19 had reached Croatia just like most of the world.
As of 15th April 2020, lock down laws are still in place and the number of national cases of Coronavirus are decreasing by the day. Croatia is not in a critical state as it stands; yet global statistics show us we must take the measures advised by health professionals and The World Health Organisation (WHO) to eliminate the spread of this virus. Horizon Sail will remain intact with this advice and do what we can to maintain the safety of our guests, crew and locals.
Later payment terms, rescheduling your trip & trip vouchers
We have amended our booking terms and conditions to coincide with the uncertain times we are in. Please see below the changes. Or you can see a full list of our general terms & conditions with these amendments temporarily added here.
With these new terms, it allows our guests the freedom to go ahead and lock in a trip now for when the time comes to travel again, without putting any payment down until closer to the date. It also gives our existing guests the flexibility to delay on cancelling your trip until ‘the last minute’ without losing your deposit and instead using it as credit towards another Horizon Sail experience in the future.
Please note that the terms and conditions in effect at the time of your new departure date will apply.
